Tips & tricks for getting around
Your Transit Options
Boston is one of America’s most walkable cities. When in doubt, you can often get here just by walking!
Public transit is the most convenient way for visitors to travel to and through the neighborhood. Fares are inexpensive, and with the MBTA’s new tap-to-pay system, you can use your credit card or digital wallet—no special card is necessary. While cabs and rideshare companies like Uber or Lyft can cost over $50 one-way, transit fares range from free to a maximum of $13.75.
Tips for Commuters
Commute times will likely be longer on World Cup and Sail Boston event dates.
If you have a hybrid schedule, see if your employer will allow you to switch your in-person days to avoid event traffic.
For the duration of the World Cup, Commuter Rail service will be affected. Please visit the MBTA website to check and see if your Commuter Rail line will be affected, or view the most up to date changes.
Tricks for Residents
Understand that traffic levels and the number of people taking transit will be elevated during World Cup match days. Make sure to cross-reference event schedules and transit schedules before heading out.
Please be aware that Sail Boston will have a more direct impact on the Seaport neighborhood in terms of road closures, particularly on Saturday, July 11 for the Parade of Sail.
Heading to a game?
There is very limited parking at Gillette Stadium; consider taking MBTA special events train or find a ride on the carpool event board.
Express buses to World Cup matches at Boston (Gilette) Stadium will also run. The express bus will make stops at the following Seaport hotels: Aloft & Element Hotels, Hampton Inn & Homewood Suites, Hyatt Place, Omni Seaport, Renaissance Boston, Residence Inn, Seaport Hotel, The Envoy Hotel, The Westin, Yotel.
