COMMUTER INCENTIVE PROGRAMS
Workout to Work - WALK and BIKE

Add a healthy leg to your commute!
  • Get fit while you get to work and be more productive when you're there.
  • Earn prizes for walking to and from work or a transit stop.
  • First time registrants receive a great "Starter Kit".
  • Help reduce traffic congestion and help the environment.

Did you know:

The National Safety Council, citing EPA statistics, says that “In many urban areas, motor vehicles are the single largest contributor to ground-level ozone, a major component of smog. Ground-level ozone is the most serious air pollution problem in the northeast and mid-Atlantic states. Cars also emit several pollutants classified as toxics...Auto emissions also contribute to the environmental problems of acid rain and global warning."

By walking to work, you benefit yourself, the city of Boston, and the environment!

Goals: Reduce car-trips and improve your health. Simply track your miles to earn monthly prizes by walking to/from work or a transit stop. Rather than sitting in traffic, creating air pollution, and spending thousands of dollars each year driving to work, try walking.

Sample prizes: Briefcases, pedometers, bags, travel kits, beverage tumblers, energy packs and more. Submit your miles each month via the link on the menu above.

  • Use your own fuel: Walking one mile burns 100 calories.

  • You're not alone: Four million Americans regularly bike-to-work. In Boston ("America's Walking City"), 12% of employees commute by walking.

  • There's a movement afoot: In response to health concerns related to a sedentary lifestyle, more Americans are seeking healthy ways to get in shape. If you have trouble fitting exercise into your busy day, schedule it into your commute.

  • Know the traffic laws and safety rules - always cross at a crosswalk and wear bright clothing at night.

Walk: If your work site or transit stop is within 15 miles of home, you can add a healthful leg to your commute by walking. Select a pace appropriate to your fitness level. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Keep an umbrella or foul weather gear handy.
