Try Transit Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible
to participate in Try Transit?
Employees of
Seaport TMA Member Companies
who currently drive alone to work are eligible. Previous Try
Transit participants are not eligible.
How do I register
for Try Transit?
Registration
in Try Transit is completed
online. Your first
$50 Commuter Check will be mailed to you at work once your
registration is processed. If there are any problems with your
registration, we will contact you via email.
How
long will I stay in the program?
You remain in
the program until you have received all three of the commuter
checks that you are eligible for, unless one of the following
occurs beforehand: (1) you opt out of the program; (2) you are
no longer an employee of a Seaport TMA member company; (3) you
are removed from the program by the Seaport TMA staff for
misuse.

Will Seaport
TMA share my personal/contact information?
Your personal
information is kept solely in our databases and is not sent to
any outside organizations for any reason. We may use information
about your uses when compiling statistical data about the
program overall, but your personal information (name, employer,
home address, email, etc.) is not included. Additionally your
employer may ask us for a list of names of employees
participating in our programs.
How much does Try
Transit cost?
Try Transit
is one of several free commuter
programs offered by the Seaport TMA. There is no charge or
participation.
When and how will
I receive my first commuter check?
Once we
confirm completion of your registration and process it, we will
send your first commuter check to your employer address in time
for you to purchase your pass for the following month.
In order to enroll we must
receive your request by 12:00pm on the 5th of the month prior.
For example: December 5th is the last day to enroll for the
January benefit.
When and how
will I receive the second and third commuter check?
In order to
receive your next check, you must complete the
monthly
report at least two weeks prior to the beginning of the next
month so that you will receive your check in time to purchase
your pass.
How will I know
that my monthly status report has been submitted?
How will I know
that my monthly status report has been processed?
As soon as
your status report is processed, your next commuter check will
be mailed to you.
Can
I get all three commuter checks at once?
No. We send
you one commuter check at a time, but you will receive three
commuter checks total if you complete and submit the monthly
status reports as directed, and so long as none of the following
occurs beforehand: (1) you opt out of the program; (2) you are
no longer an employee of a Seaport TMA member company; (3) you
are removed from the program by the Seaport TMA staff for
misuse.
What kind of pass can I purchase using commuter checks?
Commuter
checks are be used towards your purchase of an MBTA pass,
private bus carrier pass, or other mass transit pass.
Can I use my
commuter check for anything else?
No. Commuter
checks can only be used to purchase transit passes.
Where can I use
commuter checks to purchase my transit pass?

I went to a
vendor on the list and they said they do not accept commuter checks.
What do I do?

call (617) 385-5515 to let us know the location that did not
accept the commuter check.
What if the
pass I purchase is more or less than the amount of the commuter
check?
If your pass
is more than the amount of the commuter check, you will need to
pay the difference. If your pass is less than the amount of the
commuter check, you will not be given the difference.
What do I need to do to use the commuter check?
On the back
of the commuter check at the bottom is a section for your name,
address and telephone number. You will need to complete this
section in order to redeem it.
I lost my
commuter check. Can I get another one?
No. Commuter
checks cannot be replaced or refunded. Please keep your commuter
check in a safe place. Damaged or mutilated commuter checks may
not be accepted for redemption.
